Role Overview: We are seeking a Lead Technical Safety Engineer to join our, dynamic, multi-discipline engineering team. The role will primarily focus on shaping and execution of pre-FEED and FEED project phases, with the potential to provide technical oversight in later design stages. Current work portfolio is predominantly focused on UK Midstream Oil and Gas Production with opportunities in Offshore and Energy Transition sectors.
The Lead Technical Safety Engineer will play a key role in delivering high-quality technical safety and risk management services across a portfolio of client projects. Working within a project management and engineering consultancy, the role requires strong technical expertise combined with client engagement, commercial awareness, and the ability to lead multidisciplinary project delivery.
The position involves managing multiple projects simultaneously, providing strategic safety input and ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned with client objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
• Lead technical safety scope across multiple consultancy projects (FEED, detailed design, brownfield modifications, and asset support).
• Act as a primary technical safety focal point for projects, building and maintaining strong working relationships.
• Plan, manage, and deliver safety engineering work scopes within budget and schedule constraints.
• Lead and facilitate safety studies, including: HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA.
• Provide risk-based design advice to optimise safety while supporting cost-effective project delivery as well as detailed document/report writing.
• Ensure compliance with international standards, client specifications, and regulatory frameworks.
• Review and approve key safety deliverables, including safety philosophies and strategies, fire and gas detection systems, ESD and safeguarding systems, layout safety reviews and EER.
• Interface with multidisciplinary engineering teams and project managers, Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical workshops, Support audits, incident investigations, and lessons learned activities.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Degree in Chemical/Process/ Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience in technical safety engineering within oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, or related industries.
• Demonstrated expertise in front end engineering (FEED) and early project development.
• Possess a proven ability to lead and manage all Technical Safety engineering aspects, with the capability to work on multiple parallel projects, while ensuring technical quality and project schedule compliance.
• Familiarity with relevant offshore / onshore engineering design standards and guidelines.
• Experience participating in HAZOP, SIL, and LOPA studies.
• Excellent communication and team-working skills, with the ability to work effectively in a small, multi-discipline environment.
